Andy Whitfield Dies From Blood Cancer At The Age Of 39
0
I haven’t been a big fan of the show but the news is very sad and terrible. Take care and watch yourself!
Here is what NYTimes says on this:
The cause was non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, his wife, Vashti, said in a statement.
Mr. Whitfield, who was from Wales but lived in Australia, was a relatively unknown actor until he was chosen for the series, a sex- and blood-soaked version of the early life of the Thracian gladiator who led a slave rebellion against the Roman ruling class from 73 to 71 B.C.
Mr. Whitfield took what was supposed to be a temporary leave from the show, which was an instant hit after its January 2010 debut, after a routine check-up in March of that year revealed a recurrence of cancer.
Starz Entertainment, the premium channel that airs the show, used different actors to film a prequel called “Spartacus: Gods of the Arena,” while awaiting the star’s return. But Mr. Whitfield never recovered enough to come back.
Liam McIntyre, a virtual unknown from Australia, took over the leading role for the show’s second season.
Mr. McIntyre said then: “Andy’s such a wonderful actor. I don’t want to follow that guy, and everybody hurts that he’s had to give up the role, myself included.”
Chris Albrecht, president and chief executive of Starz, said in a statement, “The man who played a champion on-screen was also a champion in his own life.” Mr. Whitfield faced cancer with “courage, strength and grace,” he said.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Whitfield is survived by two children and a sister. In her statement, his wife described him as “our beautiful young warrior.” She said he died in her arms.
World’s oldest marathon runner
0DailyMail.co.uk wrote about 100 years old indian runner from whom we all can learn something about dedication, meaning of life and finding something besides material. Old people are wise people. Just because they lived longer on this planet. I always fascinated when I see and talk with an old man. Imagine and guessing what a life the man’d lived so far. 100 years is a lot. Way more than any of us can even imaging. Keeping sanity in such age is huge. Let’s wish him all the best.
Here is the full story: (and sorry for silly random thoughts above)
He’s the world’s oldest marathon runner – and at the grand old age of 100, Fauja Singh is certainly showing no signs of slowing down.
The quick-footed centenarian, who has completed seven marathons since turning 89, has become the first person to sign up to the 2012 Edinburgh race.
And he has revealed the key to conquering his daily 10-mile training regime is eating plenty of ginger curry and drinking copious amounts of tea.
‘I am not a learned person in any shape or form. To me, the secret is being happy, doing charity work, staying healthy and being positive,’ he said.
‘If someone says I must stop running I ignore them – invariably they’re younger than me. The secret to a long and healthy life is to be stress-free.
‘If there’s something you can’t change then why worry about it? Be grateful for everything you have, stay away from people who are negative, stay smiling and keep running.’
Despite being born on April 1, 1911, Mr Singh insisted his age is no April Fool’s joke. He is indeed 100 years old and still as fit as a fiddle.
He said he developed his love for running whilst working as a farmer in the Punjab.
But it was not until he moved to the UK, half a century later, that he took up the sport seriously.
With the help of his coach, Harminder Singh, he started challenging other pensioners to races and has now run five marathons in London, one in Toronto and one in New York.
Mr Singh, a Sikh, holds the world record for the men’s over-90 category after completing the 2003 Toronto marathon in five hours and 40 minutes.
He now hopes to take part in the Edinburgh Marathon Festival 2012, 26.2-mile race, as part of four-man relay team with an average age of 86.
Hunter Thompson’s Suicide Note
0“No More Games. No More Bombs. No More Walking. No More Fun. No More Swimming. 67. That is 17 years past 50. 17 more than I needed or wanted. Boring. I am always bitchy. No Fun — for anybody. 67. You are getting Greedy. Act your old age. Relax — This won’t hurt”

Machete doesn’t SMS!
0Great movie! Well worth the time and money to spend. Lots of entertainment and black humor. Trejo is cool, no doubts.

from Amazon, best review ever for Surfer Rosa
“Surfer Rosa is what it would sound like if Mike Tyson, Helen Keller, Pauly Shore, and a random homeless guy picked up instruments for the first time and decided to record an album. Was there a single actual musician in this band? I have never in my life heard a band that was so utterly, apocalyptically devoid of actual talent.
It doesn’t matter how influential this band was or how popular they were (or are) in college frat houses. Stupid music is stupid music, period, and The Pixies’ attempts at writing ‘music that’s so bad that it’s actually kind of good’ failed miserably. Unless of course you think lyrics like “This song is about a superhero named Tony!” are the stuff of brilliance.
Silliness is not an art form. This band was a crime against rock. “
